Local Resources: Safe and Protected

Understanding Domestic Abuse

In 2023, a CYPSC Working Group led by Cope Galway and  Loughrea FRC compiled a resource for those working to deliver servcies in Galway to help support women and children experiencing intimate partner abuse.

One in four women in Ireland will be abused by their partner at some stage in their lives.
These women come from all walks of life – they are not a particular kind of woman,  not a particular age or race, they are not from a particular place, with a particular income, they do not have a particular faith or career. They are just women.

When you’re ready to talk, We’re ready to listen.

Findings of Consultations with Parents in Galway City and County

In 2019, the PPFS Sub-Group of Galway CYPSC undertook a comprehensive programme of consultation with parents across Galway city and county. This comprised an online survey and a series of targeted focus groups. In total, over 800 parents contributed. The reports do not derive findings or make recommendations. Instead, they provide services with an opportunity to consider the concerns of parents and to reflect upon their own practice in light of these concerns.

Guidelines for Planning Youth Party Nights

Within this set of guidelines party organisers are offered advice and guidance on all relevant aspects of planning and running a safe party event for young people.  Topics covered include ticket sales, venue selection, security, transport and how to appropriately respond to issues that arise on the night.  The guidelines were developed by a coalition of organisations with experience in planning and running party events for young people including the Western Region Drug and Alcohol Task Force, Jigsaw Galway, An Garda Síochána and Tusla, Child and Family Agency. Publication of the guidelines was supported by the Galway and Roscommon Children and Young People’s Services Committees.

Clifden Young People Working to Improve their Relationship with Local Gardaí

A Galway CYPSC consultation event with young people in Clifden identified a negative relationship existed between young people and the Gardaí.  In response, Galway CYPSC partnered with young people, FORUM Connemara and An Garda Síochána to organised a series of fun events undertaken by young people and local gardaí.  A video record of one of these events, a bubble soccer match, was made.
