Tipperary Children & Young People’s Services Committee (CYPSC) had its inaugural meeting in July 2015. It has been formed in alignment with the amalgamation of the former local authorities, respectively, of North and of South Tipperary.
South Tipperary CYPSC, established in September 2011, was dissolved in June 2015.
Membership of Tipperary CYPSC is comprised of representatives from the range of service providers, in both the statutory and voluntary sectors, catering to the 0- 24 years age cohort and from Tipperary Comhairle na nÓg. The Tipperary Public Participation Network, the Community Pillar of Local Government, is also closely associated with the CYPSC as the structure through which the CYPSC representatives from the voluntary family support services sector and the community sector are selected. In light of the recent amalgamation of the Local Authority and in response to the separate configurations of HSE and Túsla services in the North and South of the county, CYPSC membership also has a balance of representation of stakeholders from both parts of the county.
Main achievements of the CYPSC to date include:
- The development of the Tipperary Children and Young People's Plan (CYPP), 2018 - 2020
- Implementation of some of the actions from the CYPP, including Physical Activity programmes for children in Early Years, supports for LGBT* youth and research of their needs
- Successful lobbying, in partnership with other stakeholders, to get a Jigsaw Youth Mental Health project for Co. Tipperary
