Youth Action Project Sligo (YAPS) is very active within the Sligo Leitrim CYPSC as a member of a number of CYPSC sub groups.

At a recent local meeting discussing health and well-being for children and young people YAPS outlined the ‘X-Hale’ Project; a programme they have been delivering in Sligo.

X-HALE is an Irish Cancer Society (ICS) initiative which aims to prevent young people from smoking through educating and empowering young people, youth leaders and educators. Every year ICS supports youth groups from all over Ireland to have their say about smoking and make a youth-led short film encouraging young people to stamp out smokes for good.

With funding from the Irish Cancer Society Youth Action Project Sligo delivered a programme promoting positive pro-social behaviour while raising awareness of the issue of smoking among young people.  This programme covered topics such as decision- making skills, healthy living, drama skills, script writing and film production and editing using an iPad mini.  After completion of the programme the young people submitted a film for the ‘X-hale Competition’.  You can view the film here:
