Community and voluntary organisations on the ground in Donegal are working hard to try and alleviate the level of hardship being encountered as a result of COVID-19.

A huge number of families have been negatively impacted by Covid 19 resulting in a dramatic increase in the level of need of  families in the county. Support services are working together and  individually to try and provide as much support to families as they possibly can. They are doing a fantastic job and their efforts are greatly appreciated. These organisations have limited funds to purchase the essential items needed by families such as food, clothes, nappies, formula, heating oil, coal, thermometers etc. So a collaborative approach was taken and the ‘Fund for Families’’ was created.

Lifestart Services CLG set up a ‘Fund for Families’ Go Fund Me page. This was very well received and with the support of a news article by Donegal Daily on line, has exceeded the original target and raised over €3000 to date.

Donegal CYPSC provided much needed support and  redirected €5000  from the 'CYPSC-Better Outcomes Brighter Futures Programme Fund’ into the Fund for Families. This has been of enormous benefit and enabled  services to appropriately support children, young people and families during this difficult time.

The ‘Fund for Families’ is managed by Lifestart Services.  A small working group, representing various agencies working with families assess, agree and approve where funds will be spent.  This central point of contact makes it possible to keep track of the kind of supports requested and the numbers of families receiving support. This will also help identify parts of Donegal with a high level of need.

Sincere thanks go to Lifestart Services staff who have led out on this initiative. Thank you also to all the agencies that supported this initiative including

  • We Care Food Bank,
  • St Vincent de Paul,
  • The Women’s Group Donegal Town,
  • Inishowen Food Banks.

A special thanks to our colleagues in statutory agencies and community and voluntary organisations who are doing amazing work supporting families in communities across County Donegal.

Thank You so much!
