Practice of Theraplay Training March 2020

With the support of Healthy Ireland / Department of Children and Youth Affairs funding, Dublin City South CYPSC are delighted to offer an opportunity for practitioners working with Children, Young People and Families in the Dublin South City area, to undertake a 3-Day Specialist Training in Group Theraplay® (Level 1).

Group Theraplay® is a practitioner-guided therapeutic intervention for children, young people and their families that enhances attachment, self-esteem and trust in others through playful interaction. This 3-day Group Theraplay® training has been especially developed for professionals working in community contexts in Dublin South City, and comprises of the two-day Certified Level 1 training in Group Theraplay®, alongside a third day which focuses on utilising Theraplay® as community-based intervention, supporting children, young people and families with complex needs.

This course aims to support practitioners across a variety of disciplines, to use the practice and principles of Group Theraplay® in group and community settings as a means of creating an atmosphere that is warm, nurturing, engaging and challenging. The training will support you to engage hard-to-reach children and build healthy familial relationships, encouraging children to develop relational trust, learn and practice self – control. Each 3-day training cohort will meet together as a group for a 2-hour follow up reflective practice workshop with the trainers, where practitioners will be invited to share their experience of integrating Theraplay® principles into their respective practices/services, and troubleshoot any barriers to implementation.

For further information on the practice of Group Theraplay® and training outcomes, please see attached document.
